EE, the UK’s largest cellco in terms of subscribers, has announced another coverage milestone in its LTE network rollout, announcing that it has made its 4G services available in Cornwall for the first time, Telegeography.com reported on Aug 1, 2014. According to the company, it has added another 21 locations to its network footprint, including Saltash, which has a population of around 15,000 and is the 250th “small town” it serves. EE said it seeks to offer its network in the rural towns of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and England’s Southwest, East Midlands, and Northwest. The operator has focused on bringing services to traditionally underserviced communities.

Olaf Swantee, EE’s chief executive, said of the development: “This is a landmark in our work to bring superfast mobile internet to as many people in as many places as possible. We know the benefits that 4G offers to consumers and businesses, and we’re investing heavily in areas that have not previously had good mobile or fixed-line coverage. There, these benefits can have an ever greater impact.”

In total, EE now claims to offer 4G service in 250 UK towns as well as cities across the country, with more than 70 percent of the population within its network footprint. The company’s “double speed” services are now available in a total of 20 cities.
