O2 UK sees 4G grow to fifth for all mobile data traffic

O2 UK announced that almost one-fifth of mobile data used by O2 customers is over its 4G network, a year since it launched the LTE service, Telecompaper.com reported on Sept. 1, 2014. Data equivalent to 8 million hours of HD video, or 5,400 TB, has been used over O2 4G in the last 12 months, supported by 4G adoption more than twice the rate of 3G in its first year. O2 said customers have been making use of the faster speeds and improved latency offered by 4G by watching more video content, playing games and streaming other media.

O2 has launched 4G in over 240 towns and cities across the UK, with the latest additions including the towns of Uckfield and Southend. It now covers over 45 percent of the population with LTE. It also pledges to bring 2G and 3G services to 98 percent indoor coverage by 2017.
