French telecoms operator SFR has announced that it has switched on its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Aix-en-Provence, Chelles, Sartrouville and Sevran, Telegeography.com tells us on Oct 9, 2014. The cellco revealed that following the deployment, its combined LTE and DC-HSPA+ mobile broadband networks now cover over 75% of the country’s population. The operator credited the utilization of frequencies in the 800MHz band for the footprint expansion.

Meanwhile, subscribers to SFR’s RED box can now access streaming content from leading video-on-demand (VoD) provider Netflix, following the inking of an agreement between the two companies. The announcement saw the telecoms provider becoming the first major telco to include Netflix access in its ‘Red’ branded quad-play services; rivals Orange and Bouygues previously said that they would offer access to the streaming service from November 2014.
