Cirion Technologies, a pan-Latin American digital infrastructure and technology provider, has announced the acquisition of a 15,000-square-meter land parcel adjacent to its existing RIO1 data center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This new land will facilitate the construction of RIO2, a carrier-neutral data center set to offer up to 60 megawatts of capacity. RIO2 is expected to be ready for service in 2026.

Data Center in Rio de Janeiro

Cirion says RIO2 will enhance its data center infrastructure in Brazil, becoming its fourth facility in the country. It will be directly connected via redundant dark fiber routes to Cirion's existing data centers in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Curitiba, and integratedits broader Latin American network of 18 data centers.

Enhanced Connectivity and Services

"This land acquisition supports the continued expansion of our data center campus in Rio de Janeiro, marking another important milestone in our expansion journey to grow our platform of low-latency, interconnected data centers," said Cirion Technologies.

The company added that the new facility will leverage Rio de Janeiro's business-friendly environment, renewable energy sources, and proximity to international subsea cable networks, ensuring low latency and robust connectivity. RIO2 will provide colocation, cross-connectivity, and disaster recovery services to a diverse range of hyperscalers, carriers, and enterprises.

Part of Broader Expansion Strategy

This development is part of Cirion's ongoing expansion strategy, which includes recent projects in Santiago, Chile (SAN2), and Lima, Peru (LIM2), as well as the expansion of its Sao Paulo data center campus. Cirion is backed by Stonepeak, an alternative investment firm specialising in infrastructure and real assets.
