The Australian telecommunications provider Telstra has come up with a technical enhancement that allows local emergency alerts to reach LTE handsets via its LTE network, Telecompaper.com has reported. The Emergency Alert service only covers those with 4G phones operating on 4G networks if they make or receive a call within the preceding hour. The handset is not visible to the network for Emergency Alert if used for text or the internet. Telstra has upgraded its network to make it fully compatible with the service. The Victoria government is negotiating with Vodafone and Optus to provide similar improvements.
