Telecom Mongolia needs a lot for its LTE rollout

2014-02-19 15:43:47| Source:

Fixed line incumbent Telecom Mongolia is trying to enter the domestic wireless business and deploy a 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, TeleGeography reports, quoting a local news agency Montsame, saying that the operator needs around $1.9 billion in investment to implement the project, about $500 million of that from South Korean co-owner KT Corp.

The company wants to provide LTE services in the capital city, Ulaanbaatar, by mid-2015, with all 21 Mongolian provinces to be covered by 2018. The Mongolian government reached an agreement with KT Corp to provide 4G LTE technology, in September 2013, with KT Corp taking a 40 percent stake in Mongolia Telecom, which was partly privatized in August 1995.
