The fabless semiconductor company Mediatek has announced its new 64-bit system-on-chip (SoC), the MT6732 64-bit LTE SoC, which was designed for next-generation computing, consisting of a coherent 64-bit ARM quad-core, a 1.5-GHz Cortex-A53 cluster, and Mali-T760 GPU, according to Electronics Eetimes.

The Mali-T760 GPU supports Open GL ES 3.0 and Open CL 1.2 APIs, as well as graphics for gaming and UI effects. The SoC’s is intended for the super-mid market, consisting of billions of consumers, ready to use smart devices with premium features, at mainstream prices.

The MT6732 supports low-power, 1080-p, 30-fps video playback for the emerging video codec standard H.265 and legacy H.264 and 1080-p, 30-fps H.264 video recording. An integrated 13-MP camera signal processor brings new features such as Picture-in-Picture (PiP), Video in Video (ViV) and Video Face Beautifier, while the MediaTek ClearMotion™ technology eliminates jitter and ensures smooth video playback at 60-fps on mobile devices. The SoC also has MediaTek MiraVision™ technology for DTV-grade picture quality.

The integrated multi-mode 4G LTE modem supports Release 9, Category 4 FDD and TDD LTE (150 Mb/s downlink, 50 Mb/s uplink); 3GPP Release 8, DC-HSPA+ (42 Mb/s downlink, 11 Mb/s uplink); as well as TD-SCDMA and EDGE for legacy 2G/3G networks. It also offers dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

The MT6732 platform will be commercially available by the third quarter of 2014, with devices to be announced by the end of the year.
