Since China Mobile, the world\'s largest cell phone carrier, began 4G services in Xinjiang in December 2013, the city of Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, has been constantly working on expanding its 4G network coverage.

So far, more than 900 pieces of LTE transmission equipment have been installed, and more than 750 4G base stations have been added. The 4G mobile hotspot covers 11 main areas in the central district, including Zhongshan and Youhao roads and the railway station.

This year, the Urumqi government will build another 12,000 4G base stations to cover its rural area and major scenic spots.

On average, the superfast 4G mobile broadband can handle 30 Mbps, compared with the 3G network’s average of 6 Mbps. In the past, it would take two hours to download a HD movie, but with 4G technology, the time can be cut to just one or two minutes.
