A year after the official opening of 4th-generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile services, in Brazil, as of March 31, the country had 2.08-million 4G connections, and there is LTE coverage in 99 cities, covering about 36 percent of the population, Telegeography.com reports, citing telecoms regulator Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes (Anatel) and the SindiTelebrasil telcos association.

In spite of the relatively poor 4G coverage, the two organizations say that all domestic carriers have started advanced mobile services within the timeframe of the government watchdog. By April 1, Telefonica (Vivo) was said to be the largest player with around 858,000 LTE accesses, followed by TIM Brasil, at 676,000, Claro Brasil at 321,000, and Oi at 222,700.
