NBTC gets approval for 4G auction

Thailand’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has given its approval to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) which wants to auction off some 4G mobile-frequency spectrum this year, Telegeography.com reports, citing the Bangkok Post. The Post goes on to explain that the NBTC plan calls for selling off two licenses in August, in the 1,800-MHz band, each with a bandwidth of 12.5-MHz. The frequencies were previously used by True Move and the Digital Phone Co, which is a part of Advanced Info Service (AIS). The reserve price for each 12.5-MHz license has been set at THB11.6 billion ($356 million) and will be valid for 19 years.

The regulator also intends to auction off two slots in the 900-MHz band, in November, one with 10-MHz of bandwidth, and one at 7.5-MHz. The paper notes that the 7.5-MHz block of 900-MHz spectrum is currently used by AIS, whose concession expires in September 2015. The reserve price for 10-MHz of bandwidth will be THB11.26 billion, while the minimum fee for the smaller parcel is THB8.44 billion.
