Ukkoverkot, the company which owns and operates the Ukko Mobile network in Finland, has chosen Omnitele to design a new LTE network on the 450 MHz frequency band, Telecompaper.com reports, noting that the existing network is based on CDMA 450 technology. The operator is working on upgrading the network with LTE infrastructure to meet the increasing demand for mobile data services.

The commercial launch of the new LTE network is scheduled for autumn. When completed, it will be the world’s first commercial deployment of a countrywide LTE network on the 450 MHz frequency band, Omintele said.

Under the agreement, Omnitele needs to design the soon-to-be-launched LTE 450 MHz mobile network for maximized mobile data customer experience and minimized expenditures on network infrastructure. The scope of work included radio network design, mitigating the interference issues related to co-existence with TV broadcast network, and country border interference coordination.
