State-owned Thai operator CAT Telecom has once more opened its floundering ‘My 3G’ branded W-CDMA/HSPA+ retail mobile service with a THB200 million ($6.15 million) campaign aiming to sign up 720,000 subscribers by the end of this year, up from approximately 200,000 at present, reports Telegeography.com quoting local newspaper The Nation.

A CAT spokesperson forecast that My 3G would earn around THB2.5 billion in revenue this year, rising to THB5.2 billion within five years with a projected 1.7 million subscribers. The My 3G service is offered via a network joint venture with True Corp, allowing access to around 13,500 base stations across all 77 of Thailand’s provinces.

Meanwhile, CAT has issued a proposal to Thailand’s ruling military administration, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), to approve its plan to bid for an 1,800MHz 4G (technology neutral) license in the country’s upcoming auction, scheduled for August but currently suspended under NCPO orders.
