Nextel Brasil to launch LTE in Sao Paulo in 2016

Nextel Brasil is planning to extend its LTE network to Sao Paulo in 2016, reported Telecompaper.com on Aug 20, 2014. Parent company NII said in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that it will use the 800 MHz band spectrum in both Brazil and Argentina for LTE. The company is estimating capex of $200 million over five years in Brazil for 4G. Nextel Brasil hopes to end the year with around 40 percent of the user base on 3G/4G technology. The total number of customers should reach 4.64 million by the end of 2014, growing to 7.67 million at the end of 2018, with an average annual growth of 13 percent. Total revenue should drop 14.65 percent to $1.8 billion, while EBITDA will go from $287 million to a negative $56 million.
