Ericsson announced the launch of a new software model to help accelerate network updates, reported Telecompaper.com on Sept 23, 2014. As virtualization increasingly decouples hardware from software, mobile operators need to embrace the ICT software model to become more agile and remain relevant, the company said. The Ericsson software model introduces software packages such as HD Voice, multi-carrier mobility and load management, enabling operators to simplify the implementation of new functions.

The software packages address four areas: secure smart device business, increased coverage and capacity, drive efficiency and new revenues. Operators can subscribe to the regulator updates, helping simplify the network planning process.

Called Software 15A, the new delivery model contains hundreds of new and updated enhancements spanning Ericsson\'s radio, cloud and IP portfolio. These include the Ericsson Radio Dot system support for both LTE and WCDMA, small cell coordination features, energy-saving LTE features and multi-carrier for HSDPA.
