Deutsche Telekom’s Dutch subsidiary T-Mobile Netherlands (NL) has started to increase 4G speeds as part of its new 4GMAX package., reported Telegeography.com on Oct 7, 2014. According to the mobile operator customers can expect maximum speeds up to 120Mbps and a ‘stable network’; a maximum bundle of 10GB is offered at a monthly subscription of EUR45 (USD56.50). The increased speeds are free to existing customers or new users who buy ‘Stel Samen’ (‘Put Together’) subscriptions, and will take automatic effect this month, although the highest speeds can only be achieved with a limited variety of devices – namely the newest phones on the market – and in certain postcodes where the network has been upgraded. The Randstad conurbation (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht) and other large cities are covered, with work on other cities underway. T-Mobile NL’s German parent says that the Stel Samen subscription model was introduced in 2013 to give customers ‘complete choice when designing their subscription, guaranteeing no financial surprises when using mobile internet, and free-of-charge access to 4G’.

T-Mobile NL is able to offer its new higher speeds using the 1800MHz frequency band which it claims can carry speeds of up to 150Mbps. Replacement of all of its base transceiver stations (BTS) has been ongoing since May 2013, with the cellco aiming to offer the 4G network to more than 70% of its customers by the end of 2014, extending this to all of its subscribers by the end of 2015.
