Saint Lucian telecoms operator LIME, which is owned by UK-based Cable & Wireless Communications, is close to completing the nationwide expansion of its HSPA+ network (branded as ‘4G’), reported Telegeography.com on Oct 7, 2014. The upgrade started in the north of the island, including the capital Castries, last month, while last week LIME switched on new base stations in parts of the south, including Coconut Bay, Vieux Fort, Laborie, Mt. Victorine, Savannes-Hilltop/Wine and Anse Ger, according to the local news resource The Voice. The expansion forms part of a USD13 million investment program to upgrade LIME’s mobile, broadband and landline networks across the island. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, LIME announced the commercial launch of HSPA+ services in July 2013. The 3.5G network, which operates in the 850MHz band, enables subscribers to enjoy new services such as video calling and mobile broadband at maximum download speeds of 10Mbps. Post-paid plans range in price from XCD25 (USD9.2) per month for a data allowance of 500MB to XCD130 for 5GB a month.
