Vodafone Portugal is launching 4G+ technology on 30 October that will enable customers to reach mobile internet with speeds of up to 300 Mbps, reports Telecompaper.com on Oct 19, 2014. Currently mobile internet speeds will exceeds those currently provided by fixed cable network operators in Portugal for the first time. The 300 Mbps access speed is now exclusive to customers with either of two compatible devices that Vodafone offers commercially, namely the Samsung Galaxy Alpha smartphone or Vodafone 4G B4000 router, and who are in one of its 4G+ reception areas in Lisbon or Porto. The Vodafone 4G B4000 router is available for EUR 289.90 and the Samsung Galaxy Alpha for EUR 589.90.

The expansion of this technology to other cities of the country will occur progressively over the coming months. The 4G+ network, also referred to as LTE-Advanced, is based on the use of bandwidth within the frequency ranges assigned to Vodafone in the 1,800 MHz and 2,600 MHz bands and uses aggregation of two or more frequency bands to increase the transmission speeds available.
