T-Mobile Poland has provided the results of its network upgrade, reports Rpkom.pl. Following the upgrade, the outdoor coverage in terms of the population has reached 99.7 percent for 2G, 99.3 percent for 3G and 58 percent for 4G, reports Telecompaper.com on Oct 20, 2014. The respective indoor coverage percentages are 81 percent, 89 percent and 47 percent. The coverage in terms of geographical territory is traditionally lower. Although outdoor coverage for 2G and 3G is approximately 100 percent, for 4G it is only 20 percent of territory. Indoor coverage territorial coverage has reached 60 percent for 2G, 70 percent for 3G and 6-7 percent for 4G.

The greatest progress was achieved on the 3G network. Before the upgrade, the coverage in terms of population was 80 percent outdoors and 40 percent indoors, while in terms of territory, 3G covered less than 10 percent indoors and 40 percent outdoors. The upgrade cost PLN 2 billion, and including access infrastructure, much more, said Milan Zika, a board member at T-Mobile Poland, responsible for technology.

T-Mobile plans to develop LTE in the band 1,800 MHz. The operator plans to use part of the band for LTE that has so far been used for voice services, i. e. to reconfigure the GSM network in order to support LTE. The operator could also switch off 2G in the band 1m800 MHz, if the company decides that it is more necessary for data transmission, said Zika.
