Optus starts testing LTE-Advanced network

Optus in Australia has activated its TD-LTE Advanced carrier aggregation network and has started LTE-Advanced testing. The company accomplished single user peak speeds of over 160Mbps on its commercial 4G Plus network in early December.

At its test site in St Mary’s, west of Sydney, Optus reached a throughput of 520Mbps by combining four 20-MHz channels on the 2,300 MHz spectrum into one 80-MHz channel.

The announcement comes after earlier tests of the potential of the 4G Plus networks, which demonstrated a site throughput of over 500Mbps when using the bulk of Optus’ 2,300 TD-LTE spectrum.
