Huawei, STC partner on penta-band antenna

Huawei, the global information and communications technology (ICT) provider, and the Saudi Telecom Co (STC) recently reached a commercial agreement to deploy Huawei\'s Penta-band antennas to boost the performance of the operator\'s  convergent LTE TDD and LTE FDD network.

STC used penta-band antennas as its GSM/UMTS network was unable to meet the growing data service demand. It has upgraded to a GSM/LTE FDD/LTE TDD network. It began the deployment in 2012 and now operates the world\'s largest TDD/FDD convergent network.

Huawei Penta-band antennas will be used in the port city of Dammam, the largest city in Saudi Arabian\'s eastern region and largest seaport in the Persian Gulf. Network test results in Dammam showed that Huawei\'s Penta-band antenna delivers better network performance.

The Huawei Penta-band antenna supports five simultaneous bands on the 690-960MHz/4×1710-2690MHz spectrum in a single antenna design. The antennas support plug-and-play EasyRET (Remote Electronic Tilt), with embedded remote control unit (RCU) tilt components to increase efficiency and reliability. Different spectrum bands can be independently adjusted for optimal use and the best coverage. A remote automatic identification function also increases maintenance efficiency.
