Chilean telecom regulator Sub-Secretaria de Telecomunicaciones (Subtel) has issued 4G licenses for 700MHz frequencies to Entel, Movistar Chile and Claro Chile, TeleGeography reports. Entel acquired the “B” block with an offer of 6.88 billion pesos ($12.31 million), while Movistar paid 4.25 billion pesos for the “A” block and Claro bought the “C” block for 404.2 million pesos.

Under the terms of the concession, the operators are required to deploy 4G networks nationwide within 24 months, and cover 1,281 remote regions, 503 schools and 13 roads (total area of 854 km) within 18 months. The licenses also oblige the trio to open their networks to mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) and offer interconnection for national roaming.
