The state-backed Grupo Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (Grupo ICE), which provides telecom services via the Kolbi brand, has expanded its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) service to mobile handsets, TeleGeography reports, explaining that the company started a data-only service late last November.

The service is available on a post-paid basis only and will be priced around CRC13,000 to CRC27,000 ($25.1 to $52.1), although the first 10,000 subscribers, from Feb 26 to March 12, will get one month of free access, and a promotional rate after that of CRC5,000-CRC13,500.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Kolbi started the commercial 4G services, in November 2013, on a pre-paid, data-only basis, with its LTE-2600 network covering the greater San Jose area and 18 other towns and cities.
