Omnitel extends 4G services to smartphone users

Lithuanian mobile operator Omnitel has started to offer 4G LTE services for smartphone users in the capital Vilnius, TeleGeography reports. The service supports voice as well as data, as the Circuit Switched Fallback (CSFB) technology it adopts allows voice calls to be delivered to and from LTE handsets via the 3G network.

Last month the TeliaSonera-owned operator announced that its LTE network had been expanded to 40 percent of the population; by the end of the year it is aiming to increase this to 50 percent while also hoping to provide 3G coverage to the whole country.
