Slovenian operator Si.mobil has begun updating its network in the Obalno-Kraske region in response to growing use of smartphones and increased data usage, Telecompaper reports. Existing equipment at 49 sites will be replaced with state-of-the-art technology, which is not only up to 30 percent more energy efficient, but also upgradeable to LTE technology. Some of them will be upgraded to speeds of up to 42 Mbps. Additionally, eight new 3G and 14 LTE base stations will be installed. The upgrade will take 10 days. During this period, there may be short-term disruption in the use of services in the region.
