AT&T to initiate LTE-based in-flight connectivity
AT&T has announced plans to provide LTE-based in-flight connectivity service for airlines and commercial, business and general aviation, Telecompaper.com reports, explaining that the service, planned for late 2015, will be able to provide in-flight broadband, including Wi-Fi and onboard entertainment. After it is introduced, passengers can experience improved connectivity services such as cockpit communications, maintenance operations and crew services.
To deliver the service, AT&T intends to build an air-to-ground network in the continental US, based on global LTE standards to provide fast speeds and efficient utilization of spectrum that it already owns. AT&T plans to work with the aerospace industry leader, Honeywell, to provide hardware and service capability for the in-flight connectivity service.
