Nokia putting $100 m into connected car tech

Nokia is looking for the next big thing in connected car technology and, on Monday, announced a $100 million fund to back companies whose innovations can be important for a world of connected, intelligent vehicles.

Managing the fund will be Nokia\'s venture capital arm, Nokia Growth Partners, to help support the growth of its HERE mapping division, Pcmag.com reports, then quotes Nokia’s President and CEO, Rajeev Suri, as saying, "Our new $100 million venture fund launched today underlines our belief that the connected car is a significant growth opportunity.”

This move follows Nokia’s introduction of the HERE in-dash navigation system, last summer, and a companion application.

The technology can select a map that is right for particular moment and provide a bird\'s-eye view of the highway, a zoom-in look at the city and street-level images, as well as parking availability near the final destination.

Last year also saw Nokia teaming up with Mercedes-Benz to develop smart maps to spur the development of self-driving cars.
