Ericsson announced that it took part in an LTE Broadcast technology trial with the Dutch operator KPN, on May 3, Telecompaper.com writes, noting that this first LTE trial in the Netherlands was conducted at the Amsterdam Arena, along with Qualcomm Technologies, Samsung and IBM, during an Ajax - NEC football match.

Ericsson\'s LTE Broadcast equipment supports delivery of the same content simultaneously to multiple users, a virtually unlimited number, for efficient continued use of spectrum and network equipment. It also allows operators and their media partners to deliver the best video services and guaranteed quality and cost-efficiency.

The equipment is based on the eMBMS, HEVC, and MPEG DASH standards. KPN said it was "enthusiastic about the success of the pilot project and is exploring [its] next steps".
