TeliaSonera starts DRX service for 4G mobile operators

2014-05-09 16:24:27| Source:

TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) said it is starting a Diameter Roaming Exchange (DRX) service that allows mobile operators to give subscribers 4G services outside their domestic coverage footprint, Telecompaper.com reports, adding that the DRX service also carries an industry-first option that simplifies operations and reduces operator hardware investment. Connectivity is backed by TSIC\'s global IPX network.

Customers that already have the DRX service’s managed option include the TeliaSonera Group\'s mobile operators in Sweden, Norway, Spain, Finland and Denmark, with Baltic and Eurasian operators to follow soon. The IPX-based Diameter roaming service carried multiple gigabytes of data roaming traffic for 4G roamers travelling from Sweden and Norway to Spain\'s Mobile World Congress earlier this year.

There are now 260 commercial LTE networks active in 95 countries and, as subscribers migrate to 4G, the market is seeing exponential growth in roaming traffic, with operators turning to platforms that offer end-to-end service-level agreements (SLAs) to handle the demand. TSIC\'s network already supports over 40,000 LTE roamers daily, via the DRX.

The IPX network is built on TSIC\'s wholly owned, fully redundant 100 G-enabled optical network.
