Following in the footsteps of Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone Telecom announced the opening of 4G broadband services, on Tuesday, while Taiwan Mobile is expected to get the service going today, Chinapost.com reports, reminding readers that Chunghwa Telecom started the 4G service, on May 29, a month earlier than was expected, making it the first telecom company to provide the service in Taiwan.

Sources say the download speed for 4G is four to seven times that of 3G, and that the fast media experience will be its main attraction.

Telecom companies generally provide three data plans, which, in Chunghwa Telecom’s case amounts to data usage of 1.07-GB priced at NT$636 ($21), and 6-GB, at NT$1,136, while 32-GB goes for NT$2,636. In the case of Far EasTone Telecom, it’s data usage of 1.5-GB, for NT$599, and 6.5GB at NT$1,199, and32.5-GB at NT$2,699.

Each of the three companies says it will offer unique media content. For Chunghwa, that means the 2014 FIFA World Cup, for Far EasTone, a movie database, and, not to be outdone Taiwan Mobile offers NBA games.
