Croatian cellular operator VIPnet has announced the end of its network functions virtualization (NFV) technology trials, Telegeography.com reports, citing the Parent company Telekom Austria as saying that VIPnet has shown how HD video streaming can be done by combining 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology and NFV. It says the technology will allow customers to record and directly stream smartphone content and multimedia onto cloud-based storage via a virtualized infrastructure. This means they will no longer need to offload content from their smartphone to their computer.

In commenting on this development, the CTO of Telekom Austria Group, Gunther Ottendorfer, said, “We’re absolutely confident that the NFV technology is a defining trend in the mobile industry and are therefore very pleased with VIPnet’s initiative to explore and implement NFV.”
