Surfline Communications runs LTE trials ahead of commercial launch

Ghana’s Surfline Communications is looking to deploy the country’s first 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network soon, since ”thousands of prospective customers” have asked to take part in network trials, Telegeography.com reports, citing a press release, which explains that the recently introduced ‘Press Play’ test program will allow participants in the Greater Accra area to receive free connectivity in exchange for their feedback.

In commenting on the action, Surfline CEO Yaw Akoto said, “Ghanaians are aware that super-fast Internet speeds powered by LTE are being enjoyed in other parts of the world. And we are proud to pioneer LTE in Ghana and work with prospective consumers to define a network experience that is truly special.”

Surfline Communications is a privately owned company established in 2011, and which worked with the French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent, in July 2013, on a commercial LTE network, where Alcatel-Lucent provides the hardware and software, along with installation, maintenance and services to support Surfline’s 4G deployment.
