Vodafone Germany has completed an improvement and expansion of its mobile network in the capital city, Berlin, as part of a €4 billion ($5.4 billion) national modernization program, Telegeography.com reports, while noting that technicians have replaced hardware and software, at about 905 locations in the capital, to improve voice quality on the network.

Vodafone has doubled its 3.5G data transfer rates up to 42.2Mbps by using dual carrier (DC)-HSPA+ technology across the entire UMTS network, which now covers 99.7 percent of Berlin households.

The UK-based company, which has more than 23,000 base stations nationwide, said the Berlin upgrade is part of its plan to put about €4 billion into mobile network expansion and modernization across the country over the next two years.
