Having just been granted formal permission to move forward with plans to commercialize LTE technology, Taiwan Star Cellular has entered into a strategic alliance with South Korea’s LG Uplus, Telegeography.com reports quoting Digitimes, adding that the deal will allow Taiwan Star Cellular to leverage LG Uplus’ experience in the 4G market.

Meanwhile, Taiwan Star Cellular is said to have revealed plans to increase the number of its LTE-enabled base stations by 30 percent by the end of 2014. As such, the company will offer 4G coverage to 95 percent of the population of Taiwan by then.

In October 2013 Taiwan Star Cellular, a subsidiary backed by Ting Hsin International Group, was named as one of the six companies to have secured LTE-suitable spectrum. For its part, the would-be operator secured the 10MHz ‘B1’ block in the 900MHz band at a cost of NT$ 3.655 billion ($122 million).
