The French service provider Bouygues Telecom has begun a low-cost fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service that can deliver download speeds of up to 400-Mbps in selected cities, reports Telegeography.com, adding that the locations offering FTTH are Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Toulouse and Bordeaux.

Bouygues is providing an upgraded ‘Bbox Sensation’ for 25.99 euro ($35.45) a month, well below the FTTH subscription plans of rivals, which average around 40 euro per month. Bouygues Telecom’s triple-play bundle also includes 170 TV channels, 29 of them in high definition (HD), with 300-GB of DVR capability, access to video-on-demand (VoD) services and games, and unlimited calls to mobile and fixed lines in France and certain locations.

In addition, Bouygues Telecom has announced that it hopes to switch existing customers, whom it currently serves with Numericable’s fiber-to-the-last amplifier (FTTLa) network, to its fiber-optic network. By the end of 2014, the operator’s independent infrastructure will cover 3.3 million households and is expected to deliver downlink speeds of 1-Gbps.
