French operators\' retail revenues down 6.1% in Q1 – Arcep

Telecom operators\' retail market revenues declined by 6.1 percent to EUR 9.1 billion in the first quarter, compared to a year earlier, Telecompaper.com reports on July 6, 2014. Fixed revenues declined by 1.9 percent to EUR 3.7 billion and mobile services decreased by 13.4 percent to EUR 3.4 billion. This is the second consecutive quarter of fixed retail revenues being higher than mobile revenues. In the first quarter, 3.7 million of France\'s 77.6 million mobile phone users subscribed to an LTE service. Mobile customers are now making 3 hours a month of calls on average, 10 minutes more than in the first quarter of 2013. Mobile data traffic rose by 76 percent to 56,629 TB in the first quarter, up 76 percent in a year. SMS and MMS volumes grew by 1.7 percent to 50.8 billion messages. Call volumes grew by 8.1 percent for mobile but declined by 11.6 percent over fixed networks, resulting for a total of 61.1 billion minutes, down by 0.9 percent on the first quarter of last year.
