SK Telecom, Ericsson start joint research of 5G technology
South Korean telecommunications operator SK Telecom and Ericsson have signed a MOU for joint research for 5G technology in Stockholm, Telecompaper.com reported on July 7, 2014. SK Telecom and Ericsson selected technologies considered essential for evolution to 5G, including next generation small cell, ultra-wideband, low latency technology that could be used for remote driving, FDD/TDD convergence technology, gigabyte-level data transmission technology etc. SK Telecom and Ericson have also agreed to continue to work together if there are additional technologies found necessary for the next generation network. On 2 July, SK Telecom and Ericson have demonstrated 5Gbps, a LTE-based network speed in the 15GHz bandwidth.
