Yoberi lauches LTE drones to cover Polish resorts

The company Yoberi has implemented the first drones in Poland to offer free LTE Internet, reported Telecompaper.com on Aug 18, 2014. Residents and tourists in nine coastal resorts can now use free LTE Internet. Three drones, each 8 meters long and 3 meters in diameter, cruise above the nine resorts of Gdansk, Gdynia, Sopot, Lebą, Ustka, Jaroslawiec, Kolobrzeg, Pobierowo and Hel. The airships carry modems allowing wireless Internet at up to 60 Mbps over LTE technology. Each airship provides Internet to about 400 people a day over an area with a diameter of 1,000 meters. The maximum number of users is 1,000.

The project\'s preparation took two years. Good results could lead to the launch of additional airships in September, according to Rafal Smolinski, chairman at Yoberi. The company wants to prolong the time of flight of the drones and work on a solution that would not require recharging the drones. The project was developed at the research park Pomorski Park in Gdynia. The airships can be positioned at various heights, but the optimum is 20-30 meters.
