Argentine telecoms ministry SeCom has announced that the winners of a 4G spectrum auction will have to pay for the spectrum with US dollars from their parent companies, reported Telecompaper.com on Sept 15, 2014. The winners will also be able to pay through the acquisition of bonds nominated in US dollars issued by the government. Argentine operators Claro, Personal, Movistar, Nextel, Cablevision and media holding Grupo Uno have already acquired the tender documents to participate in an auction to obtain 4G LTE spectrum. The Argentine government expects to award 4G spectrum on 31 October. The government plans to award 90MHz of spectrum in the 700MHz band as well as another 90MHz in AWS (1.7-2.1GHz).
