Tigo ends June with 54.7% of Paraguayan mobile market

Paraguayan mobile operator Tigo, owned by Millicom International Cellular (MIC), claimed a 54.7% share of the country’s mobile market at 30 June 2014, industry regulator Consejo Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Conatel) has announced, equivalent to 3.716 million users, writes Telegeography.com on Oct 16, 2014. The statistics, which have been reported by online news portal Ultima Hora, place Tigo well ahead of nearest rival Telecom Personal (Nucleo) which had 2.044 million customers (30.1%) at the same date. Elsewhere, Claro claimed 546,747 subscribers (8.0%), narrowly ahead of Vox (489,166, 7.2%).

Meanwhile, in related news, a total of 178,530 wireless users have switched operator since mobile number portability (MNP) was introduced on 30 November 2012. Tigo accounted for the lion’s share of ported numbers (81,507), ahead of Personal (63,630), Claro (29,834) and Vox (3,559). However, in terms of net gains/losses the operators are far more evenly matched. Claro has gained a net 8,362 users, followed by Tigo (1,205) and Personal (494). Vox however, has lost 10,061 net customers since the introduction of MNP.
