Bulgarian mobile operator Max (previously Max Telecom) has switched on its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Varna, the country’s third largest city and a major seaside resort, reports Telegeography.com on Oct 17, 2014. According to a press release, subscribers in the city can now benefit from theoretical download speeds of up to 75Mbps over the network. The new development is part of Max’s objectives to achieve 50% coverage of the urban population in Bulgaria by the end of 2014; the LTE network is now available in Sofia, Bansko, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Ruse and Pleven.

Max’s chief marketing officer Maria Toycheva said: ‘The launch of 4G LTE in Varna is a crucial step that shows that we are realizing our plans for steady growth … We have prepared a special surprise for the first 4G LTE subscribers in Varna – one of the first 50 [customers] who chooses 4G LTE service in our stores will win a ‘LG G Pad 8.0’ tablet with three months super-fast mobile internet for free.’
