CTU disagrees with draft amendment of telecommunications act

2014-10-22 10:48:37| Source:

Czech regulator CTU has announced that the draft amendment to the act on electronic communications significantly limits the rights of customers and is not in line with the EU directive, Telecompaper.com reports on Oct 20, 2014. Its main objection is that consumers have limited ways to act in a situation where an operator unilaterally changes a contract. Presently, when contract conditions change, the operator has four obligations towards the customer, including informing the customer of the change and allowing the customer to cancel the contract.

According to the new draft, the opportunity to cancel the contract without penalties will be bound to the assumption that there is \'a significant change in contract resulting in a deterioration of the subscriber\'s position\'. However, the EU legislation does not admit any such additional requirement. CTU will therefore further decide on eventual disputes in a way that would protect the rights of subscribers in line with the EU law.
