The Bahamas Telecommunications Co (BTC) has started 4G LTE services in New Providence, Grand Bahama, Abaco and Eleuthera with other islands to be covered later this year, LteWorld.com reported on Friday.

BTC has started by offering LTE device options, such as Nokia 920, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, BlackBerry Q10 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Its LTE network will be ready for iPhone 5 and up by the end of March. Its prepaid LTE data plans include 1GB at a price of $20 and 2GB for $30. Other plans include 3GB, at a price of $35, 5GB for $40, 15 GB for $70.

BTC says that it has put around $18 million into mobile capacity, including the LTE development, this fiscal year, and plans to spend a lot more over the next 12 months to improve performance and capacity, while expanding LTE coverage.
