Bouygues Telecom opening LTE-A in June
The French operator Bouygues Telecom has announced that it will launch LTE Advanced services in Lyon and Bordeaux, in June, Telecompaper reports. It and SFR and Orange France are all testing LTE-A in one or two cities, but Bouygues claims to be the first to have 182 Mbps downloads.
LTE-A uses two frequency bands for faster speeds, which, in France can be 800 MHz, 1.8 GHz or 2.6 GHz. Bouygues has been experimenting with it in Bordeaux since October 2013, using 25 MHz and no extra base stations. The operator will have smartphones available in the second quarter, with a chipset capable of integrating two bands.
