SK, Tele2 Sweden lead in LTE availability

When OpenSignal, a company that specializes in wireless coverage mapping, did a study of LTE metrics around the world, it found that Claro Brazil which has the highest network speeds on LTE (at 27.8 Mbps), nonetheless has extremely limited coverage, Telecompaper reports, and it found that South Korea’s and Hong Kong’s 4G networks do extremely well, both in speed and coverage, based on its app user data. In \'Time on LTE\' measurement, South Korea came out on top, with the average SK user having access to LTE, 91 percent of the time.

But the best performing individual network was Tele2 Sweden, which began back in 2009, and provides LTE access 93 percent of the time. Sweden does extremely well overall, with the average user having access to LTE, 88 percent of the time.

The US operator MetroPCS combines impressive LTE coverage with the slowest LTE speed of all qualifying networks and the US performed well on the coverage metric, with the average user experiencing LTE coverage 67 percent of the time.

Australia was the fastest country, with an average speed of 24.5 Mbps. The US, with 6.5 Mbps, and the Philippines, with 5.3 Mbps, were the slowest countries. And, the worst performing network was in the Philippines, based on the data from the second-half of 2013.
