GSA reports 90% annual growth of LTE user devices worldwide

Globally, 154 manufacturers have announced 1,563 LTE-enabled user devices, reports LteWorld quoting a recent GSA report, saying that 742 new LTE user devices were launched in the past year, representing 90 percent annual growth. The number of manufacturers was increased by 58 percent to 154 companies in the same period. The share of Smartphones grew to over 40 percent of all LTE device types. 57 LTE smartphones support VoLTE.

A total of 233 Category 4 user devices have so far been announced a peak downlink rate up to 150 Mbps.

Of all LTE devices, 387 products can operate in the LTE TDD (TD-LTE) mode. In addition, 72 percent of LTE devices can operate on 3G/HSPA systems and 36 percent of LTE smartphones and 26 percent of LTE-connected tablets can operate on 42 Mbps DC-HSPA+ networks.

275 LTE networks have been commercially launched in 101 countries so far and GSA predicts that this number will reach 350 by the end of 2014.
