Movistar has announced plans to accelerate 4G network deployment to ensure that at least 60 percent of the Spanish population is covered by the end of 2014, reports Telecompaper. The operator already has Spain\'s most extensive LTE network, with 4G-access in 197 locations, including 32 provincial capitals -- 22 via its own network and another 10 thanks to an agreement with Yoigo signed last summer.

Movistar will continue expanding LTE coverage this year to 443 locations by December, including all Spanish cities with more than 70,000 people. In all, that 60 percent of the people will be covered by 4,200 base stations. It also said it will continue with the LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) trials it’s been running in three different Spanish cities.
