The Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (NPT) has started consultations and planning on three 2×5-MHz blocks of 1800MHz spectrum that went unsold at last year’s auction, Telegeography.com reported on April 4, noting that NPT has published a general framework for auctioning these 1710-MHz, 1725-MHz/1805-MHz, 1820-MHz frequencies, but has said it wants industry input before drafting auction rules, with a submission deadline set for May 2.

Last December, NPT confirmed that three companies had obtained new frequencies after its 800-MHz, 900-MHz and 1800-MHz spectrum sales, with the winning bidders being Telenor, TeliaSonera (under the NetCom banner), and Telco Data, with the market’s third mobile network operator, Tele2 Norge (including Network Norway), notably missing out. Telenor and NetCom grabbed 2×10-MHz in the 800-MHz band, 2×5-MHz in the 900-MHz band, and 2×10-MHz in the 1800-MHz band, while newcomer Telco Data got a slightly larger batch, laying claim to the 2×10-MHz in the 800-MHz band, 2×5-MHz in the 900-MHz band and 2×20-MHz in the 1800-MHz band.
