Cambodian ISP Emaxx is scheduled to end its retail operations and instead focus on becoming a wholesale fiber and 4G network services provider. Emaxx will invest $148 million in the telecommunications infrastructure with work scheduled to begin in October, Telecompaper.com reported on Friday. The company has purchased 3,000 kilometers of fiber network from Cambodia Fiber Optic Communication Network, which will be used to support a nationwide LTE network of up to 600 base stations across the country.

The company also plans to build two data storage hubs, one in Bavet and one in Phnom Penh, which should be completed around 2015. The application of the LTE network will start in October and the company aims to have 100 base stations built by December. Earlier this year, Chinese firm Shenzhen Keybridge Communications (SKC) bought a 65 percent stake in Emaxx, which until then provided retail fixed-line and wireless internet services.
