Altel gets Huawei for 4G platform

Malaysia’s telecom operator Altel Communications is said to have signed a deal with Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies for installing its 4G infrastructure, which will come out alongside that of its partner Celcom Axiata, reports Telegeography.com, citing the Sun Daily.

The deal calls for Huawei to provide wireless, core, transport and billing services, as well as consultation to help the company develop newer more competitive mobile services. Altel, a subsidiary of Puncak Semangat, was one of eight companies to get LTE spectrum in the 2,600-MHz band last year.

In commenting on network deployment plans, Altel’s CEO, Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Yaacob, was cited as saying, “We understand that providing a 4G network is not an overnight task and, as such, will be building our own network and leverage Celcom’s widest, fastest network in Malaysia and continue to invest over the next five years.”
