Telecom NZ to try LTE in 700 MHz band
Telecom New Zealand plans to begin trials on an LTE network over the APT700-MHz spectrum, in May, working with Huawei Technologies, at 11 cell sites spread across three Waikato locations, including central Hamilton and the Mystery Creek Events Centre, Lteworld.org reports, noting that the operator will use Huawei’s wireless routers for testing, so, access to the trial will be limited to those directly involved.
The test will begin in late May and run approximately four weeks and will be non-commercial with selected customers. Although the NZ government’s 700-MHz spectrum auction is not yet concluded, the Business, Innovation and Employment Ministry has approved the temporary use of the spectrum for the trials.
